Piriformis syndrom
Piriformis is a small muscle, deep down in the buttocks. Piriformis Syndrome refers to the muscle becoming tight and tense. For some, this disorder could cause sharp pain down the leg, since the muscle is situated above the sciatic nerve.
The piriformis muscle will tighten with long-lasting strain such as sitting down, extreme activity or by compensating for another dysfunctional musculature in the back or hip region.
What you can do yourself:
-
Stretch your seat musculature
-
Avoid sitting down too much
-
Sit or lean on top of a ball with focus on the painful area
-
Use a foam-roller to roll across the seat
How we can help:
-
We start by mapping out the causes for the pain. The Piriformis Syndrome has a way of returning after some time, as soon as we return to old patterns. It is therefore vital to find the real cause of the problem.
